What is a father? Ask this question to 10 different people and you’re likely to get 10 different answers. Some fathers are solid as a stone. Quiet and calm—somewhat predictable and always dependable. Some fathers are dreamers, men of great vision and remarkable faith and confidence. And still other fathers are shiftless, lazy, and perhaps deceitful. They may be angry, impatient, or even brutal. Regardless of the type of father you had, his imprint on your life is indelible. But, as we learn from the Lord God—Himself a Father—the exacting yet rewarding task of fatherhood reveals five essential character traits of a good dad.
