Charles R. Swindoll
Stories of failure among leaders are legion. Sometimes they are private, known by only a few, and shrugged off with words like, “He’s only human.” Other times they are public and scandalous, causing the public to lose respect or to ridicule and reject them. Ethical, moral, financial, and personal failures of various leaders reveal serious character flaws and result in the breakdown of public confidence. In addition, a growing attitude of suspicion sours those who once believed in and loyally supported the leader. This is especially true in spiritual leadership. Few positions carry with them more weight of personal responsibility than that borne by those who speak for God and those who claim to be called by Him.
