There's something wonderful about returning to the basics. It's both refreshing and reassuring. Married couples occasionally return to their marriage vows, which strengthens their marriage. The best coaches consistently remind their teams of the fundamentals of the game. We often go back to the basics when we come to a crossroad, some event that requires of us a special amount of commitment or renewed determination. That's where the Hebrews were in the ancient book of Deuteronomy—the law, given a second time to a new generation. The people had been wandering in the wilderness but were now almost home.
