Within each of us is an insatiable curiosity to know the future. Because that curiosity is so powerful, we are often drawn to prophecy passages like the ones in 1 Thessalonians. And we are intrigued by modern-day prophets who link current events with Scripture and cry out with conviction, “Behold the future!”
If we're not careful, though, our curiosity can get us into trouble. Some prophecy “experts” bait people with sensational predictions that have little basis in Scripture. Of course, these false prophets eventually reveal their true identity when their seer-like powers fail them.
So when it comes to future things, we must proceed carefully, claiming only what Scripture claims and being aware of a few facts concerning the subject of prophecy.
