Suffering is a universal language. Despite our diversity, we all know what it means to hurt. But the causes for our pain vary. Sometimes we ache because a trusted spouse, colleague, friend or family member has hurt us. In other instances, an unexpected tragedy like a natural disaster, a sudden layoff, or an illness may turn our worlds upside-down. And sometimes, we dig our own pit of despair by making sinful choices.
Suffering slices through even the toughest emotional armour. Unseen trials lurk inside the homes of your neighbours; pain percolates inside each person you see on your morning commute. Perhaps a personal tragedy threatens to break through the facade you have been trying to present to friends and co-workers. When God seems to be turning up the heat in your life, where can you turn? Let's examine a group of believers who were feeling the heat and see how they found new hope.
