Warnings of false prophets and counterfeit messengers are not uncommon in the Scriptures. Since the major weapon in Satan's arsenal is deception, we should not be surprised that he uses various people, especially religious leaders, to spread his lies under a brilliant cloak of trickery. Jesus predicted, “false Christ's and false prophets will arise, and will show signs and wonders, in order to lead astray, if possible, the elect” (Mark 13:22).
Revelation 13:1-10 spoke of a future political leader, Antichrist, who will gain a hearing and cultivate a worldwide following. Now we meet the one who will be his second-in-command, the famous and most powerful false prophet in all of time, who will urge the world to trust in and obey that leader. He will, in fact, enforce the worship of Antichrist.
