Out of nowhere, Elijah appeared on the scene like a meteor in the sky. He arrived at one of the darkest hours in Israel’s history. More than six decades of wickedness had prevailed in the nation: open idolatry, political corruption, and moral decay. Suddenly, without warning, Elijah stood before the king and declared the word of the Lord in fearless fashion. Elijah’s next instructions from God were: “Hide yourself by the brook Cherith,” which he did. The lessons learned beside that lonely and dried-up brook are of great interest to us...since the dried-up-brook experience is often where we find ourselves before God.
