Once Elijah had delivered to King Ahab the message of a coming nationwide drought, God told Elijah, “Go...Hide yourself” (1 Kings 17:3). Elijah obeyed. More than three years later, God told Elijah, “Go, show yourself,” and God would send rain on the earth (18:1). This was a stated, specific promise that Elijah claimed, which gave him power in prayer. This message brings to light how God’s promises apply to us when we pray.
