Charles R. Swindoll
Of the seven churches addressed in Revelation 2 and 3, the most familiar to us is the church at Laodicea. Located about 150 kilometres due east of Ephesus and 70 kilometres southeast of Philadelphia, Laodicea grew into a major urban commercial centre by the middle of the first century.
Self-sustained in their wealth and independent spirit, the Laodiceans are severely rebuked by the One who knew them all too well. The Lord withholds any word of commendation, as He declares stinging reproofs for being spiritually lukewarm. But He is, however, loving and tender in extending to them an opportunity to turn away from their nauseatingly half-hearted lifestyle and answer His knock at their door.
It's as if He is saying to them (and to us), “It is never too late to do what is right.”
