Charles R. Swindoll
We have arrived at one of those rare occasions where we're invited, not only to hear about this magnificent, awe-inspiring place called heaven, but also to enter into it and witness, through the pen of John, what is there. The writer has followed the Lord's command to write “the things which you have seen” (Revelation 1) and then to write “the things which are” (Revelation 2 and 3).
John is now being prepared to write “the things which will take place after these things” (Revelation 4-22). So that he (and we) might have the proper perspective on these future events, John is invited to step into God's throne room (4:1). As we follow him there, our understanding of this awesome place will immediately be enlarged and enhanced.
