At the end of Revelation 8, we read of a loud voice announcing, "Woe, woe, woe to those who dwell on the earth, because of the remaining blasts of the trumpet of the three angels who are about to sound!" (v.13). Each "woe" coincides with each of the final three trumpet judgments that follow.

The first "woe" (fifth trumpet judgment) will open the abyss, releasing a demonic horde of locust-like creatures that will hurt humanity for five months (9:1-12). The second "woe" (sixth trumpet judgment) is even more treacherous than the five-month-long locust plague. Another enormous number of demons is permitted to annihilate one-third of humanity, thus drastically reducing earth's population and spreading even greater chaos around the world. Woe, indeed
