The grim reality of humanity’s sinful condition fills the opening chapters of Paul’s letter to the Romans. But the eighth chapter sounds a refrain of relief: “There is now no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus” (8:1).

The gospel is good news because it says that freedom from sin isn’t earned. Rather, it is a gracious gift from God!
