There's a lot of confusion within the Christian family about what it means to be “filled with the Spirit.” Fortunately, God's Word can guide us as we seek to answer these questions. We know that the Spirit indwells every believer when he or she accepts God's free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. We also know that God commands us to be filled with the Spirit and to yield to His control—Scripture often illustrates the effects that the Holy Spirit has on believers' lives. And as we begin to study what traditionally has been a confusing and divisive issue among Christians, may we be careful to treat others with love and grace.
