Looking at 2 Samuel 7, we found David enjoying a brief time of relief from the demands of his role as king…an interlude of quietness. Now we find him in a similar context. He was thinking back over his past. Naturally, his thoughts returned to his relationships with Saul and Jonathan and his promise to both. Reflecting on those things, he was determined in his heart to carry out his promise, regardless.
This chapter conveys how he kept his promise, forming a beautiful and rich analogy of what God, in grace, has done for us.
