Going...Not Knowing, single message

This message is part 2 of the series Abraham: One Nomad’s Amazing Journey of Faith.

Moving isn’t easy, especially when we’ve lived in the same place for a long time. Besides all the packing, loading, unloading, and unpacking, we face the difficulty of saying goodbye to those we love, leaving the familiar, and adjusting to the unfamiliar. But what about moving, not just to the unfamiliar, but to the unknown? For most, that would be downright terrifying. Yet this is exactly what God called Abram to do. How could he do it? Why would he want to?

The answer is found in one word: obedience.

When God called Abram to “going without knowing,” Abram packed his things and obeyed. Like many of us, he had all kinds of reasons to stay in Haran. He easily could have responded to God’s call with, “This is as far as I can go for you, God.” But even at the age of 75, Abram trusted God and obeyed, stepping into the unknown. The God who loves to surprise us by challenging our expectations and shaking up our priorities may be calling the “settlers” among us to set out full speed ahead . . . and the “pioneers” to roll up our sleeves and dig in. In either case, we must ask ourselves, Am I ready and willing to trust God and obey His call?
